Here is a pic of a little doll I made for John. I wish the picture was a little better so you could see her more clearly. The little buttons represent the chakara system and on her coat is a prayer for truth. I think the best part howerever are the pom poms on her toes. Also I have been meaning to share a picture of our new room! I am so proud of our "grown-up" bed. John and I were sleeping in a sort of hodge podge mixture of a little of my stuff from college and a little of his and it didn't really feel like either of ours so we set out to make a room that is both of ours. We got the poster in Italy this summer and believe it or not John picked out the comforter-- never mind I did a little reasearch online first to narrow the choices a bit ;) The lamps on the side tables have a funny story because John and I found those one summer at a barn sale while we where both home. Then when we went to college I took the boy one and her took the girl one. Finally after 5 years they are back together under one roof.

Okay I must paint. I spend all week working so I have money and time to paint and then the weekend is here and i just want to relax. But the hard part is starting once I get the paints out I am "in the zone"

A fluffy little nest

I am so happy, this morning I made my very own Mediation Station!

I believe that Meditation such an important tool for getting in touch with your highest self and clearing illusions that lend themselves to energy draining habits and addictions. That being said it is amazing how difficult it has been for me to put aside even 15 minutes of silence each day. Up until now my mediation has been in reading spiritual books, journaling, walking in nature and yoga. I feel now though it is time for me to take my practice further by adding silent and still mediation. Planting a little meditaion nest for my self has been so healing.

It is nice because I now have a place to light a candle or 10 and surround myself with peaceful images and things that I really like. I even have a special place for my crystals and Tarot cards.

I really recommend making a mediation area in your home if you don't already have one. I was surprised how easy and inexpensive it was-in fact it was totally free! I just moved around things that I already had in my apartment. It was already in my house just waiting for me to find it :)

Well that is all for now, if you have a little sanctuary in your home or if you make one I would love to see it. I think that peoples little corners dedicated to their hearts are so beautiful and uplifting.

a little ramdom

Please forgive me in advance for this slightly random post.  First off I must show off my latest purchase from Ebay.  Remember when I said that my computer broke?  Well have no fear Ebay is here!- With used macs! 

I got this G4 for $242 including shipping-and I got it the next day!  I am so stoked about it.  This is a pic of my new comp from the ebay posting.  It runs great.  I still have to see about getting all of my music transfered on it--I don't have everything backed up --oops.  Oddly enough on my computers final day I backed up all my pictures- thank god.

Okay to totally change subjects I must confess my major-ly geeky fan-crush on Maggie Gyllenhall. 

Not only do I think she is beautiful,she is hugely talented and she has great style to boot.  I wish I could have a career like hers, I love how she has done so many interesting indie films.  I don't know if I am quite as hard core as she is--I would say my dream would be to do work along the lines of Maggie and Rachel McAdams crossed.  I like Rachel's career because it has a little comedy and sappy romance mixed in.

Another artist I absolutely adore is Fiona Apple. I find her so engaging and sincere.  I love her music, it is brilliantly articulate.  I love how great writers and lyricists can pare down things that are seemingly indescribable into the most imaginative and concise little packages.  It is such a gift to reveal the absolute beauty and perfection in even the most "mundane" and infuriating moments.  Oh and one more reason I love Fiona--She's a vegan.  I definitely feel a connection  to anyone who shares such a deep concern and compassion for animals.  Oh okay and one more thing on miss Fiona-I finally watched her acceptance speech at the MTV music awards-that she got so much heat for ,and I totally knew what she was saying - I think that she could have said it a bit more effectively perhaps but she was  19 and in front of millions of people.  I think anyone with the courage to stand up for what they really believe should be applauded.

  Honestly there are soooo many amazing artists sharing there gifts with the world that I feel endlessly inspired and touched by.  These are just two performing artists I had to mention because i never have and I am so appreciative of there work.

How could I forget?

Sorry I have been away, I have been nanning for the lovely little Aviyah who is easily the most fantastic and beautiful baby to date. Thats one reson I haven't posted in a few days, but mainly because my computer is broken :( so I have to use John's.
Anyway I dont know how I failed to mention such a HUGE and exciting part of my life! I am GETTING MARRIED!!!! to the most beutiful I have ever known! Look at my www.mywedding.lauralovesjohn.com. I am so excited planning my wedding is like planning the biggest interactive art project ever! I have my dress which I am in LOVE with but I cannot post a picture of it because I am afraid that John might see it.

I dont know where to start

  It seems life moves so quickly that in the matter of weeks we are entirely different people almost.  I have not been keeping up with my blogging ( or my art :(   lately because I have been traveling,going to weddings and seeing my family.  I am so grateful for all of the beautiful experiences I have had this summer, but I am equally grateful to what my experiences have shown me. 

  I would say the biggest thing I have learned is truly valuing my own space-both physical and non physical.  Traveling is great for the purpose of pulling you into a new reality, consuming all of your scenes so that it is a fruitless effort to bother yourself with your normal daily routines and concerns.  But I feel revitalized by sitting at my own desk and proud of my accomplishments that surround me in my own space.  The things I have created, the belongings that I pined for and earned, and even the bogs of raw materials calling for me to mold them into new form is beaming with possibility.

Bachlorette Party!

This weekend was my beautiful cousin Katie's Bachlorette Party here is a pic of the bridesmaids minus two:Lindsey,Kirsten,Kate-the Bride, and Me

First we dressed Katie up in proper Bride garb and had cocktails at her house

Then we danced

And Drank and Danced some more, I don't have a picture of it but we also went to Daisy Dukes and watched people ride the Mechanical Bull -- It was Awesome!

I had so much fun!  It was my first time in hanging out in Rochester, I couldn't believe how cheep the drinks were because I am used to NYC prices. A Margarita was only $4 !

It's been far too long

Well I must say I have been keeping myself quite busy these past couple weeks which keeps me sane I think.  I am happy to say I did my first fair in a very long time!  It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of cool people.  It was the brooklyn indie market on Smith and Union,  it is a super cool market spot with a lot of great designers.  I love meeting other people who have sewing callouses and paint on their shoes.

I am really pleased with how everything turned out.  It's really cool to put it all together and see you have created this little world. I think that is really important because then no matter what, at the end of the day you can feel good because it is not just about the sales but it is about the art.   By the way please double click these pictures because they are really nice.  John took them.  He is not only the most beautiful man on earth he is a hugely talented photographer.  I will post some of his pictures later maybe so you can see what I mean.

I want to go to this show, it looks amazing! My dream is to be in shows like this one day.  Speaking of dreams, lately I feel I am really stepping into acceptance and appreciation of the dreams I have held since I was a little girl so I guess I am stepping into myself. I have been working tirelessly lately because I have a bunch of Craft Fairs coming up and I always have a weensy feeling of uhhhh...I hope this works out.  So today I pass this woman who drops this in front of me as she was digging something from her purse.  And of coarse everything has to means something (to me at least) I knew I would be okay.  I have this thing with Rainbows because whenever I am going through changes or doubts they seem to pop up everywhere letting me know I am on the right path. What can be more comforting than a Rainbow Lollipop? Nothing...duh. Well I think that is all for today, thank you for reading my ramblings.  xo Laura

Tips to make any day better

1.      Have a little quite time in the morning before you start the daily routine ( I am working on this one)

2.     Take a little extra time getting ready in the morning, pick out an outfit that makes you feel confident and tells the world a little something about who you are.  I think this step is like giving your self a hug and a kiss and saying (your name), I love you! I love the pic below I am so focused.  I got this dress at forever 21 along with a bunch of other things for summer that I love.

3.      (optional) put a little make up on, it's fun and pretty, sounds like a win win to me and as a freelance make-up artist for stila I gotta represent.  In this pic I am wearing Oasis eyeshadow even though you can't really see it in this picture.

4.      If you have any morning ritual insert it here, such as checking your Etsy store,doing yoga writing a to do list.  I like to do all that, and I love picking out what over sized ring I am going to wear that day.  Let's face it it's really the little things that you can always count on for a little pocket of joy in your day.

5.      Say to yourself " This is going to be the best day yet, I am happy to be alive to experience it. "

6.      (optional) Coffee. For me? Yes please!

The other day I came home and there where rainbows all over the wall of our hallway, it was light that bounced off of our bathroom mirror.  I feel so comforted when I see a rainbow, it reminds me that I am not alone.
