Recently I was asked if I do portraits, to which I excitedly answered yes! When I was in high school, I remember asking my art teacher how to get a drawing to actually look like the person I am drawing and he said "well it is really difficult, few people actually can so don't stress over it." If there is one thing I hate, it is being told something is not possible so from that day on I obsessively spent the length of each class ( I had two art classes a day, and sometimes my free period) drawing portraits of people in my class. I would sit in front of the mirror practicing drawing myself, I would draw people as they were drawing, or I would drag a friend in the the art room from the cafeteria and draw them. Needless to say all my practice lead me to not only being able to capture people's likeness but I was able to do a drawn portrait in minutes. Portraits are still one of my favorite things to do, I especially love the eyes because that is where you can really see someone's heart. After I do a portrait of someone I feel like I have learned a lot about them.
As I have gone on through the years, I have developed my own style and it has really allowed me to stylize the final product. I call these the "what you would look like if you were a Disney princess portraits"
This little set was commissioned by my lovely friend Deanna, we discussed colors and the feelings of the pieces that she wanted and she approved of the sketches and ...Wa-la! I have to say these pictures do nothing for the real paintings, I am so thrilled with the way they turned out. If anyone is interested in owning there very own portrait please feel free to contact me, you can convo me in my shop or email me Laumhug@yahoo.com :)
